The diversity of Meran is unique
In South Tyrol
Meran is a blend of the Mediterranean and the Alpine
Meran is a place where springtime starts much earlier than elsewhere, where you can feel the carefree Italian style and sense the bygone days of Empress Sissi. Meran and its surrounding area invite you to discover and experience this special place. Along the Passer/Passirio river, on the gently sloping promenades of Meran, in the porticoed arcade of Meran, in the Castle Trauttmansdorff Botanical Gardens - and if we haven’t listed all that Meran offers, rest assured that there’s no time for boredom on holiday here!
You can head out on countless hikes, from leisurely easy to moderately difficult, take mountain and peak tours up to the surrounding “three-thousanders” of the Meran mountains with the distinctive Texel group (with a mountain guide on request), play tennis, go horse riding or canoeing, rafting, paragliding and mini golf are every bit as popular.
And then, of course, you can pedal off on a pushbike, a racer or a mountain bike, or take a jog around the numerous running and fitness trails.
On the gentle vineyards around Meran, which you can admire on a walk along the world-famous Meran Promenade, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon and South Tyrolean red wines such as Vernatsch and Lagrein varietals thrive thanks to the gentle Mediterranean climate of Meran. And the Meran area is also home to palm trees basking in the sun amidst prickly pear cacti and winter jasmine.
Illustrious spots in South Tyrol weave their way around our hotel in Untermais/Maia Bassa, Meran - in 30 minutes you can get to, to name but two, Lake Kaltern/Lago di Caldaro and Bozen/Bolzano, the capital city of South Tyrol.
